What is a Project Template?
When creating a project in AceProject, two options are available to you: Starting from scratch or copying a project from a template. If you start from scratch, you'll create a brand new, blank project. On the other hand, if you copy a project from a template, you'll create a new project based on another's structure.
  • The following items are copied when a project is created from a template:
    • Task Groups, Task Types, Task Statuses and Task Priorities.
    • The project's "Contact", "Task Dependency Options", "Settings" and "Default Values".
  • Optionally, the following items can be copied:
    • Project assignments and project documents.
    • Discussion forum topics.
    • Tasks, task assignments and task documents.
  • The tasks' dates in the new project can be auto-adjusted based on the new project's start date. Hence, date intervals as well as each task's duration will be maintained and auto-adjusted accordingly.
  • All task statuses can be reset to a "Waiting" status if you wish.
How to Create a Project Template?
Creating a project template is rather simple. You may mark any existing project as a template or create a blank project and mark it as a template thereafter.
  • One way or another, you simply need to select the appropriate option from the "Project Template" drop-down in the project's settings.
    • Project Type
    • Client Name
    • Priority
    • Next Task Number
    • Project Template
    • Parent Project Name
    • Enable Task History
The "Parent/Child" Relationship
The "Parent/Child" relationship enables you to link projects together. This ensures that the child project's structure (task groups, task types, task statuses and task priorities) is always identical to its parent's. Whenever a structure change is applied to the parent, all its child projects are updated accordingly.
  • To link a project with its parent, simply check the corresponding box in the project's settings.
    • Parent Project Name
Dynamic vs. Static Project Templates
A project template can be marked as "Dynamic" or "Static".
  • A dymamic template is a project you can use as both a template and a project to work with. Its entire structure can be copied. Its tasks are displayed in task lists, such as "My Tasks".
  • An static template is a project you can only use as a template. Its entire structure can be copied. However, it cannot be used to work with as its tasks are not displayed in task lists, such as "My Tasks". No email notification is sent for static templates.
